Jan obtained his B.IURIS degree in 1991 and LLB degree in 1996 at North West University. Jan then became a prosecutor from 1993 – 1997 where he investigated and prosecuted in the District and Regional Court. During this period he was also acting Senior Public Prosecutor from time to time. He completed his Attorneys Admissions Examinations at Law Society in 2000.  After being admitted as an attorney he established a partnership i.e. Barnard Kriel Attorneys.  In October 2003 he started his own practise. His practice is actively involved in litigation. Jan was also a panel attorney for Mutual & Federal Insurance handling short-term insurance claims against and for the company.

 

Jan was also appointed as presiding officer of the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (Mpumalanga).  He is currently still an acting attorney with right of appearance in the High Court of South Africa.
